I need a good cheap recording device. Just good enough to not suck batteries and good enough to hold 1-5 minutes of playing for practice purposes. Know any good ones? like 99 bucks and under good ones?

Depends, are you looking for something for home recording eg just guitar OR something portable for bringing to band practice? Is this for recording into a pc/laptop or onto a tape/minidisc etc?

you obviously have a computer. have you heard of limewire.
www.limewire.com
it is a shared downloading program.
there is a free version just follow the prompt at the site. you may have to download java runtime too but it will prompt you and let you know if you need it and how to get it.
once you have limewire, select the programs tab for downloading and type in cakewalk music creatorpro24 2004. it will be yours. it is the best. learn how to use it. you will make your own cd. you can make your own videoclip and show the world your coolness.
