Just once. you should know the feeling you get when you reach way up to plug in, and then, when you push the Standby switch, the speakers go "punk", and your shirt flaps in the sudden gust of wind.....

OK. OK... lemme think......

Just one of each???

uhhh....

 • 1984 Yamaha SBG1000, black, with a DiMarzio DP156 Tone Zone bridge pickup, and a DiMarzio DP151 PAF Pro neck pickup. Series/Parallel coil switches for both pups, and a phase switch on the neck pup. Pups sloped away from the thick strings to keep the tone balanced. 1 Meg pots all 'round. Buzz Feiten tuning system set up for D'Addario EXL110 strings. Solid silver Mojo Pick.

 • 1977 Ampeg V-2 head. NOS Mullard preamp tubes. GEC KT88 power tubes. Made-to-order 2x15" cab loaded with old alnico Marsland speakers. Ampeg retro 'vintage' Tolex and grille cloth.

 • 197? Dulop JH-1 wah with the 'stack of dimes' inductor.

 • Tommy - The Who

So, I've gotta make a 'sleeve' case for the guts of my VT-40 amp, (so the VT-40 combo becomes a V-2 head), find some NOS tubes, finish designing & building the cab for my speakers, and I'm there!

you got all this stuff and then some????? you disgust me...nice set up!!! i searched for that yamaha on the web and i found one close to it (nice) but not yours, do you have a pic on here somewhere?? a friend of mine had a 67' yamaha he got in japan brand new and it was the best guitar i ever played...it had a ton of knobs and switches and a fret right after the nut, man that thing played beautiful and never went out of tune

That sounds like it was an SG-2, which was my first 'real' guitar. I'd like to find another one. It was sweet. My SBG100's look like my avatar. As for my gear list:

Here's what I have at the moment:

19?? Washburn EA20-12B 12-string electric/acoustic
19?? Washburn SBT-21 6-string Telecoustic type
(early 80's?) Washburn A-20CS 6-string electric (weird-looking beast)
(late 80's?) Washburn A-5 Re-issue 6-string electric (weird-looking beast with Floyd Rose trem)
(mid 80's?) Odyssey V built better than either the Gibson or Epiphone Vs (sounds better too!)
1984 Yamaha SBG-1000 black double cutaway Les Paul copy ("Brand X", with DiMarzio Dual Sound & SCHB pickups, my main axe)
1984 Yamaha SBG-1000 black double cutaway Les Paul copy ("The Stalker", with DiMarzio Tone Zone & PAF Pro pickups, my nasty axe)
196? Yamaha SA-30 hollow-body 12-string
19?? Yamaha RBX350 4-string electric bass guitar

1991-4 Peavey Rock Master tube pre-amp
1977 Ampeg VT-22 120 Watt, 2x12 tube combo
197? Ampeg VT-40 60 Watt tube combo, rebuilt as a 1x15 (Weber California ceramic)
1982 Ampeg G-18 10 Watt 1x8 transistor combo
2002 WeeBeastie 5 Watt home-built experimental amp
197? Garnet 4x12 column cab
19?? Marsland alnico 15" speakers (no cab)
199? Yamaha DG Stomp multi-FX/amp simulator
1976 Dunlop JH-1 wah pedal
198? Boss OD-1 overdrive pedal
198? Boss DS-1 distortion pedal
198? Samson CT-3 wireless

Guillemot ISIS Maxi Studio computer recording interface
Superlux PRA-258 microphone

Bear in mind that I've been acquiring gear since 1968 - I didn't just go out one day and buy all this stuff!

Actually, I've been thinking about thinning it out a bit...

gorgeous git fiddle...p.s. my buddy with the old yamaha was a fender shape but a little more meaty in the body than a fender, tobacco sunburst, i will try to get a hold of him and ask him(a tough subject since some tweeker stole it 5 years ago  ) it had three switches in the upper left as you holding it(switches that were black and slid up and down)and pickup switch located like on a strat

Oh, yeah. They do tend to stick in your memory. Yamaha was (or was part of) the Nippon Gaki Co. Ltd. at the time. Mine looked like the ones pictured here.

I missed out on getting the one in these close-up shots because I had already bid on my Washburn SBT-21. ~sigh~

Right. SG-2 or SG2, I'm not sure which. There was a 12-string version called the SG-12, and a variation called SG-3 that had a double pickup at the bridge. The little slide switch near the neck had two positions. Pushed down (towards the neck), the rest of the controls worked in the normal sort of way. Pulled up, it connected the neck pickup to the 'preset' tone and volume rollers set into the pickguard above and between the pickups. I think the same control system was used on the Fender Jazzmaster. All of the Japanese factories were busy copying American designs in those days. I think they got this particular body shape just right, though. Better than any Strat I've ever seen. And yeah, I miss it somethin' awful!

That's gotta be the most kick-ass take on a blues standard! My usual warm-up routine is a 5-10 minute jam on The Amazing Journey/ Underture.
