Well, there are several good places to start. Learn some chords, scales and strumming patterns. Look under the beginner lessons. Learn to read tab! Very important and easy.
I am a constant evolving music machine. Oh Man, I just forgot what I was playing. Oh well, on to the next song.

To get started, try these steps
1) Learn how to hold the guitar
2) Learn the parts of the guitar
3) Start with a very simple chromatic excercise (1,2,3,4) on one string
4) Learn all the notes on the low E string starting at the 1st fret to 12th fret
E,F,F#,G,G#,ect..
5) Learn all the notes on the A string starting at the 1st fret to 12th fret
A,Bb,C,C#,D,D#,ect..
6) Then learn some 1st position bar chords (which are movable on the neck)
7) Learn some 2nd position bar chords
You should be able to accomplish most of that in a few weeks, then build from there.
Most importantly is to practice, practice, practice!! Using a metronome will build your timing, and work on alternate picking when doing those chromatic scales!

Try the "absolute beginners" guide. That should help ya. Try some of the lessons in my section as well; many of them are simple enough for people just starting out on the guitar (if you do have any questions about them you can always e-mail me too).
