I need to broaden my listening experience.
I've been playing guitar a while now and I'm familiar with most of the popular guitar players but I don't seem to be hearing any new and exciting guitarists.
Someone who would inspire me to be more creative and renew my enthusiasm for the guitar.
I like many different styles of music but at the moment no one floats my boat (for want of a phrase).

Can you help me out with some names please.
:)

Charlie Hunter has a lot of interesting stuff up on his site that you can download for free.

Dean DeLeo from Stone Temple Pilots does a lot of interesting things, especially on their "Tiny Music..." album. Think: Twisted chords, lots of stereo interplay between guitar parts and just generally odd fills and solos.

I'll see if I can't think of anybody else throughout the day.

If you don't already own the following albums, check them out, they are must have's and changed the way I looked at the guitar:

1) Jason Becker - "Perpetual Burn" - the must have album above all others (buy it from his website cos he's sick as hell and needs the cash)
2) Vinnie Moore - "Defying Gravity" - a lot of different styles on this one (unlike the older stuff) including neoclassical shred and spanish guitar
3) Theodore Ziras - "Virtual Virtuosity" - amazing neoclassical that uses rock foundations (verse chorus) - this guys technique is flawless
4) Symphony X - I hate the singing but Michael Romeo guitarwork is brilliant and he writes a lot of orchestral parts with symphonic sounds, very progressive and original

Check em out!

Forgot to add this one, it's probably the most original and involves true virtuosity from all band members...
4) Liquid Tension Experiment - both albums (Petrucci on guitars)

Really? I like the singing in that band. Took some getting used to, but at least it's singing and not just constant screaming.

Though he's not a "new face" on the scene Jason Becker can be a inspiration to everyone. Check out his website http://www.jasonbecker.com.

Not much there in the way of new things or whatever, but if you take the time to read/listen/watch his site you can't help but feeling inspired no matter what your cup o tea happens to be. I know it works for me.

Doesn't matter who the singer is, I'm an instrumental freak! He's a goof singer allright, I would prefer if he was a bit more aggressive as per Pantera "Cowboys From Hell" era... I just wish Michael Romeo would bring out another solo album, The Dark Chapter was an excellent debut...

Many thanks for the ideas so far.
An eight string guitar! I didn't even know they existed.(Charlie Hunter)

These have been quality suggestions so far. Any more would be greatly appreciated.

I also like X cause of singing.

I would like Children of Bodem, by Laiho's singing sucks really bad that it makes me want to turn off their songs.

Finally my new "gotta have it" guitarist of the moment is Jake Cinniger from Umphrey's McGee . I went to a really liberal hippy school in Ohio and tried like hell to get into bands like Phish, the Dead, and Widespread Panic. I did to a certain degree, but these Jam Bands, as the genre is known as, always left me wanting a little bit more. Umphrey's McGee has filled that void for me and it's because of Jake's incendiary lead work. Jake bridges the gap between Jam Band and Virtuoso. Check out the song Triple Wide if you can, it's a masterpiece!

Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.
