As I'm sure we've all noticed, this forum is frequented by many good American republicans.

So, how many of you own firearms and what do you use them for? What's your favorite?

1 410 gauge

Rifles: (Used to Deer hunt with the 300, but deer hunting got too boring)
2 22 calibers (just to have)
1 300 caliber

Handgun:

I know a guy who owns a double barreled 8 gauge shotty. I didn't even know they still made ammo for those until recently.

I'm not a Republican, but I am well armed:

- 20 Guage shotgun
- .303 Savage
- a small collection of single shot .22s

And I'm currently baby-sitting my brother's .32 Winchester.

Finally, I'm saving up for a Springfield Arms XD and then likely one of their 1911 .45s after I'm used to shooting handguns again.

That confused me for a second there because "XD" is used as a smilie on every other forum I frequent (to show excitement) and I didn't know until now that SA made non-1911 handguns.

What's the .303 caliber like?

What's sad about it? Guns are tools just like screwdrivers and hammers. Baseball bats don't deter criminals anywhere near as effectively as 00 buckshot (or slugs, if you don't live in town) and it's much easier to hunt animals with a good rifle than with a sling and rocks.

Nice little lever-action. Back when I hunted, it was my "brush gun" for when I knew that any shots I took wouldn't require a scope.

Royal pain in the ass to find ammunition for, though.

Question: Are you sad that people take martial arts, too?

and he owns guns... doesn't mean that he'll accidently shoot anyone with it either! most people who own guns take alot of care not to point guns at other people, even when the safety is on, even when it's not loaded! you just get your occasional stupid person, and then you hear about it on the news, and then everyone thinks guns are evil then...

Statistically, I won't either.

In fact, going by the statistics, you're more likely to have a gun accident should you stumble across one than I am (because you probably don't know how to handle one safely).

Personally, I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do -- to me, shooting is just another martial discipline that utilizes a little bit different set of skills, but I'm very much in the same frame of mind when I do either. [If you're doing it right], they're both very much about form, mental focus and self-control.

Owning firearms is, of course, more expensive than karate.

There's pretty much no such thing as an 'accidental' discharge. There are only careless mistakes, often made by people who shouldn't have been allowed near a gun in the first place. Proper firearm safety should always be practiced.

Hammers are dangerous. People have been killed by hammers, both by accident and on purpose. Hammers can do an incredible amount of damage and as a result are excellent for self defense. Kids shouldn't play with hammers because they might get hurt. Why does nobody care who has how many hammers? Why does nobody think it's "sad" that people own hammers?

A gun is a useful but powerful tool just like a hammer. If you don't know how to handle one safely then don't.

If anybody just caught a glimpse of a gun in this neighborhood they'd freak and call the cops.
