ok, im at school rightn ow and i need a topic for a senior project within the next week. i was going to do something like music of the 20th century, but the topic was so broad i was overwhelmed. it has to be an arguable topic, not a fact, but not something like "led zeppelin is the best band in the world" kindof thing, becuse thats un arguable. (for good reason) but anywho, i thought maybe you guys would have some rad ideas for musical topics to have a 6+page paper on.

How about how music influences teens....Like the guy that killed himself, then Judas Priest was blamed for it saying the lyrics to which ever song influenced him to kill himself...

Or how heavy metal music in general is tagged as satanic or evil....some of it is, but for the most part, it's not....It's just like what Ozzy said about them starting up Black Sabbath. They were standing outside of a movie theater that was showing a horror movie that had a huge line waiting to get in. Ozzy looked at the other guys and said "why don't we make horror music". It's all history from there.

I did a paper on euthanasia. Very interesting. I think it was a 10 page paper. You'll be able to find plenty of material on that.

i came up with a few topics, one becasue i read an article in the portland mercury (its kindof like a progressive scenester newspaper that has music, politics, movies, bla bla bla, but totally liberal) that had a number of articles on how solo artists are killing rock bands. the reasons wehre numerous, stating that its easier to have a laptop and recording equipment than to have 5 band members, buy gear (amps, guitars, zylaphones, whatever) and to have rigs to carry the **** when you tour, pay for recording studio time, a practice spot, and have to deal with the daily problems of band members with different interests than you, not to mention drug problems and stuff that goes along with rock n roll. so they whre weighing out pros and cons and stuff, very cool and legnthy topic. another that i thought tied on to that was how rap music is becoming tahe dominant youth culture, and rock is kindof taken a backseat to hip hop and "r&b". (no matter what youre annoying 13 year old neighbor tells you, greenday doesnt count as rock and roll on mtv) so yea. then i had a cool idea of talking about the difficulty in getting signed as a musician becuase there are so many good ones now adays. as far as being a musician, the talent has upped the ante, and in order to acutallyu make money with music practically, you have to be a musican for hire that is somehow better than the hundreds of thousands out there. i know, they all kindof soudn the same, but the idea for a senior project is to have one main idea and stick with it. so i couldnt really dwell on all three of those topics in my paper, only one, and i have to have an arguable thesis, like "rock and roll is going the way of the american indian" or something.

How about
"The electric guitar changed music forever"

An argument could be that rock and roll would never have happened if it wasn't for the electric guitar and therefore subsequent music types would not have evolved.

thats actually a good idea. all of them are. well, i read a senior project on the almost impossibility it takes to get writing published, so ithought i could take a spin off with it and talk about getting signed as a band/solo artist, whatever. you have to have an activity that relates to the paper, and i could play a show and document it as the events played out. its probably going to look like this:

dear diary: i played a show this weekend. i dont want to talk about how drunk i got or who i peed on. will write later.

I'd do a paper on how heroin abuse has galvanized rock music.

The tomato is clearly a vegetable that is eaten like a fruit.

Nope, it's a fruit that's eaten like a vegetable.
You get an F.

According to their botanical classification tomatoes are fruits, but according to the Supreme Court of the United States of America the tomato is a vegetable (Nix vs. Hedden, 1893).

Therefore it's my patriotic duty to argue with you on this one regardless of the fact that you're right.

I liked the one about the electric guitar changing music (and lives) the best...for it certainly did.
Although recent events have reminded me of an "A" speech I gave in Speech class. I told of a serial killer who started just off Africa, then crossed the ocean towards America. As usual alerts were given to be on the lookout, but regardless more people died than any serial killer on record. Law enforcement was quite helpless to stop it. And as with most killers, a name was given. Katrina, for instance, cuz my topic was hurricanes. Although this was almost 4 years ago, it's even more relevant now.
And even though I didn't have the required visual aid (other than the chalk board), my instructor loved my intro so much I still got the "A-".

Well as a proud Canadian English guy I have to argue back.
Tomatoes are thought to have originated in South America, in what is now Peru, Bolivia, northern Chile and Ecuador , so they aren't American.

Tomatoes are actually a tropical fruit (botanically speaking).

Tropical? I never would have guessed that.

Hmm..here's one- nobody makes milkshakes out of tomatos, therefore they're not fruits.

Nobody makes milkshakes out of apples or pears either, but that doesn't mean they're not fruits.
And it's "tomatoes", not "tomatos" ...guess that explains why you American weirdos spell colour wrong too.

Yes people do. Apple shakes are awesome.

Tomatoes is the correct spelling. That was an individual mistake, not a national one.

Spelling it "colour" is ghey. It's 'color', dammit.

I should probably explain this whole color thing- 'color' is the American way of spelling it, 'colour' is how it's correctly spelled in the Queen's English.

A general rule of thumb is that if they use metric where you live the correct spelling is 'colour', otherwise it's 'color'.
