Ok so your'e in a band that plays just about every type of music you can think of.
The rest of band get a bit upset when you turn up with 8 guitars stating that they all sound different and even more irate when you keep changing guitars during the set and keep everyone waiting.

So what if you could have only have one guitar and one amp.
What wouldthey be?

A nice humbucker guitar with coil spliting capability, a PV Classic 50, an overdrive pedal, and an eq pedal. It doesn't get more versatile or simple than that.

Hmmm...well they now have those new modulating guitars that emulate different axes. Or those Parker Fly's seem cool too, with their piezo pickups and wiring. You might also consider just re-wiring a guitar you already have to get more pickup positions and such.

I guess the absolute, most versatile setup there is to date would be a Line 6 Variax guitar and a Line 6 Vetta II amp. But I prefer my real guitar and amp.

Only 2 guitar comes to mind when it comes to versatility.

1) PARKER NightFly Supreme and Mojo Flame - $2,700

or the cheaper but same capabilities and quality

2) LINE 6 Variax 700 - $1,800

The best new modulating guitars that emulate different axes, they can imitate any sound you want ranging from Blues, Metal, Rock, Jazz, Fussion and even Synth sounds.
Guitarplaying is 1 Percent Inspiration, 99 Percent Perspiration... :)

Yeah, digital offers the most versatility, but you will alway's get the digital sound......

A Les Paul with split coil pups and a Marshall tube amp to me is the most versatile....Most people think Marshall's are not very versatile, but I disagree with that....A Marshall can be tricky to tweak and get the sound that your looking for. I can get anywhere from a bluesy sound to a deathmetal sound with my JCM 800 and Gibson SG or my Ernie Ball EVH...

I just got the demo of this guitar on a cd from guitar world magazine and it is pretty dang sweet. A bit pricey though...

if you wanted the most versatile guitar...you should get a custom guitar built.

i'd suggest strat body, hum single hum with both buckers coiltapped, all three pickups with phase switches, 5 way switch with a button to activate the bridge pickup to allow more pickup selections, tremelo system with piezo bridge.

versatile enough?

digital stuff doesn't cut it for me. emulating isn't feeling it in the gut.
