Start with learining chords (only the basic once, c-d-e-f-g-a-h in both minor and major)

Than u can start learning power-chords (than u can start playing heavy ****) (E5 is a power-chord...)

I started by taking guitar-lessons, were I learned alot of the basic.

4 years later I started listening to MetallicA and wanted to learn their songs so I learned how to read TABS (very easy)Learning the MetallicA songs made me much better on guitar. Now its 1 year since I started learning the MetallicA and I have learned much more in this year than the 4 years I took lessons.

Now I can almost all the teqnuices there is for guitar (artifical harmonic, harmonic, Palm mute, hammer on, pull-ofs,slide, Tap picking, bend, using my bar..making my guitar scream!, and lots of other)

I would suggest going to a guitar teacher in your area.
