I can't remember what it's called, but Roland has that synth thing you can put on a guitar.....it's actually a little pickup that you connect to the synth, and you can turn the guitar into any instrument, including drums....
I'll look it up and try to find out what it's called....

I know what you're talking about. I do it sometimes with my acoustic. If you have an internally mic'd acoustic guitar the sounds are really cool... it's almost like playing a djembe drum. But it's a cool little thing to do in a breakdown of a song. Especially if you're jamming with some other people.

I would like to see someone do a drum solo on a guitar

haha. I just lay down a beat usually. It's no blazing drum solo. It's pretty neat though because you can get a good bass line going with light taps on the outer edge of the soundboard to get the snares. I also recently played around with hitting the strings right by the bridge of an acoustic guitar with a slide... it gives a twangy chord sound with a bas drum kick. it's pretty cool. Me and my buddies love to play around with that stuff when we jam.

yeah... I keep a double bass PEDAL (with an 'A') by me when I'm playing guitar....*thumbs up* When we're playing/jamming acoustics we don't play with a drummer...and jamming can get monotanous after awhile... so if you're trying to keep a crowd of people into your show you have to mix things up and do some different stuff. The crowds always seem to like it when we start jamming like that. Because it's different from what everyone else does. I don't do it on my electrics just because that would be pointless... but it's something to get the crowd into a show with. I've been straying away from electric guitar a lot lately... The market for Jack Johnson/Dave Matthews type singer/songwriters is exploding on the college scene so we make good money playing shows like that.

I played around with one of those Roland Synth's I mentioned in a store a few years ago. They are pretty cool, not something I'd buy, but it was fun nonetheless....

Man, that Roland Synth's on guitar is AWESOME !, I wish I had that before but its to way expensive..actually that synth pick-up is already built-in when you purchase the Fender Ritchie Blackmore Signature Stratocaster w/ Roland Synth pickup.
But it's $4,500+ You can program it to make your guitar sound like snare drums..or a little bass drum. Really cool. A good alternative for all Les Paul buyers who wants a guitar with the same price but with a different feature.
Guitarplaying is 1 Percent Inspiration, 99 Percent Perspiration... :)

its just a midi controller, the majority of people use keyboards for midi controllers
to write music, and program the drums etc.. but if your a guitar player you may find it more instinctive to use your guitar via a midi pick up, the midi signal triggers off a sample (if the pickup comes with its own synth) or you designate one later in your sequencer, if its just the raw midi data your laying down.
