Palm muting is simply resting your palm against the back of your guitar's bridge. This creates a muted sound.

Works well with power chords both clean and distorted and gives more control and a thuddy sound
if you always take the lazy route

its not really on the back of the bridge.

with your picking hand (the side with your pinky finger to be exact) rest right where the strings meet the bridge. The angle of your palm respective to the strings should be something like 45 degrees. Moving the hand away from the bridge closer to your fingering hand with mute it more. Pulling away from your fingering hand will lessen the palm muting effect.
Bass guitar is the answer to everything

Sorry, yeah that was confusing. Not at the back of the bridge.
