I have just bought two EMG humbucker pickups (81-89)
but I haven't put them on my guitar yet. So curious how they gonna
sound :) Is there anyone else with EMG? How they sound? I know they are good but I haven't playd with EMG's before .

Yeah, they're not really made for anything but distortion. They can get some decent clean tones with the help of some effects. But they will cry out and crunch like a mother f'er. Nice purchase!

I have the ZW set in my Jackson and the clean tones are good but the distortion is off the chain!
I am a constant evolving music machine. Oh Man, I just forgot what I was playing. Oh well, on to the next song.

EMG's are good pickups. They have a nice distorted sound and clean isn't that bad as some people say they are.

EMGs - great choice
I usually use the 81/85 configuration. Great for metal - false (pinch) harmonics, etc. but the real strength of these pickups though, is their performance at high (very high) volumes. They are "supposed" to be the quietest pickups (no extra noise/hum) at the loudest volumes. For predominantly clean style there probably are better pickups, but I thought that they worked ok in those situations (alot still has to do with your amp, set up, etc.) But for crunch rhythm, palm muting, and power leads, they definitely shine. Should take a decent amount of time to wear the 9-volt battery out. Remember, they're active pickups, so you will need the 9-volt. You'll know when the 9-volt is wearing thin b/c no matter what you do, everything you play will sound incredibly muddy. Put in a new 9-volt and your sound will be back to normal. Unless you're Eric Johnson, you probably won't be able to tell a difference whether your using duracell, energizer, etc.

I am using EMG DG-20 on a Custom 2001 USA Strat. For a great sound that removes the niggly little noise at full volume on any USA Std Strat, great drive that removes most issues with tone variation when used with analogue pedals and has great control and never an issue with flat batteries. Why? When you allow EMG to do the design including the active tone controls there are no issue, forget it and just play. Can recommend to anyone professional or home based player.

never tried them as of yet but ive heard they're a bit too metal...wait nvm thats not possible....but i mean that u cant play clean stuff with emgs. is that true? btw i just thought of a cool pickup combo, Dimarzio PAF pro in the neck, then some vintage single coil and a heavy metal EMG, best of all worlds!
