EMGs - great choice
I usually use the 81/85 configuration. Great for metal - false (pinch) harmonics, etc. but the real strength of these pickups though, is their performance at high (very high) volumes. They are "supposed" to be the quietest pickups (no extra noise/hum) at the loudest volumes. For predominantly clean style there probably are better pickups, but I thought that they worked ok in those situations (alot still has to do with your amp, set up, etc.) But for crunch rhythm, palm muting, and power leads, they definitely shine. Should take a decent amount of time to wear the 9-volt battery out. Remember, they're active pickups, so you will need the 9-volt. You'll know when the 9-volt is wearing thin b/c no matter what you do, everything you play will sound incredibly muddy. Put in a new 9-volt and your sound will be back to normal. Unless you're Eric Johnson, you probably won't be able to tell a difference whether your using duracell, energizer, etc.
