I'm just wondering about some song structure for a hardcore song. Like, what I mean is, how should I set up writing a song for my band? What we have now kinda goes like so:

Intro(chorus riff)
Verse1
Chorus
Verse2
Chorus
Breakdown
Chorus

And our problem is, as you can see, that all of our songs are a little chorus-heavy. So how can I space these things out to make a better sounding song?

Crazy idea. Write another verse. Put it between the bridge and the chorus or whatever. Also, stop playing hardcore. That atonal screaming is atrocious.

Friend of mine is big into hardcore... he's not a big fan of solos and seems to like hardcore because it has so little (if any at all) solos... I personally find that boring and unexploring and the constant breakdowns I find sound the same after a while, but hell, he likes it and there's a notable fan base involved so here's to.

But enough of my opinions. Here's my thoughts on your question. Let the song go where it goes. If the song is apt to go into a chorus as the best result then by all means, but don't force something into a structure if it calls for something out of structure. I often find structures like that to be boring and predictable (sorry, more opinions) so I say take a moment and think "where should this song go next?" Not all songs are made to have such a structure where others are better for that structure. Maybe the breakdown should be the intro, hell, maybe more than one breakdown? Just whatever feels best to come next.

I didn't proof read this because I'm lazy so if I lost you that's probably why and I'm sorry.

thats all you have to say. the problem wiht hardcore bands is that they write song after song without any drivingt inspiration, any catchy riffs, or anything remotely interesting that makes it different than any other band. ive heard some alright hardcore bands, but they usually are more metal than hardcore. im sorry, youre not gonna get good information from me, becasue i hate the whole hxc scene **** and i hate hardcore.

thats as close to hardcore as ill graze, and thats only becasue my buddy is in it and he owns at iron maiden solos.

whats up with the breakdown thing, anyways? its almost as bad as stopping every one of your songs the same way, and chugging a drop d power chord. yea, its fun to do in your room when you feel like a phony rockstar. i do it too, along with those horrible minor 3rd melodies they play, but i would rather put my penis in a meat grinder before playing a hardcore breakdown on stage.

yea dude, like if the song doesnt have any feeling whatsoever and you ahve to force it to be interesting, its bound to be predictable. knowing alot about music theory sure doesnt hurt, but if theres no where to go with a song, theres no where to go.

Yeah, I dont much like hardcore, It sounds very close to just random noise and screaming at times, but then again it can sound awesome sometimes. But yeah I dont believe in going by the structures or anything, if you just throw aside the structure you can come up with something entirely new and badass. Just use the structure as a walkingstick, never a path.

Hardcore is not to be confused with metal. There's metalcore, but that's still not metal. It's just heavier than hardcore, but true metal isn't so linear. So Arrggh, my ears are bleeding because this damned hardcore music is playing, god make it stop!!
