I was going to buy the marshall mg50 amp, but read some lousy reviews regarding it, so now im lead towards the mg30, any advice?

Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

what do you want it for ?

If it is a bedroom amp the MG15 (I have one MG15MSII) will be more than enough !!

If it is for gigging, I'd go with the 50. Remember solid state amps are not as loud as there tube counterparts !!
My instructors page and www.studiotrax.net for all things recording.

My cousin has the Mg100 2x12 combo and he loves it. I can't vouch for it's tone, because I've never heard it, but he really enjoys it.

We had a MG100(something or other) half stack in our studio and it sounded alright. It was nothing special though.... just a solid state with the British purr. If you have some nice effects pedals to run through it it would be perfect... but if you don't... you're going to find your tone very limited. The MG series is pretty much the base model for Marshall... you can't find a cheaper Marshall amp. But nonetheless it carries the Marshall badge. It's an average amp that would hold you over. I was unimpressed with its tone once I started comparing it side by side to our other amps. I would say it would work great as a first amp though and would recommend it for beginners. The only complaint I really had about it was the speakers... I would take out the stock ones and but in some Celestions.
