Hi guys and gals,
I am an older person (46) just starting out. I already picked up my guitar, a Tanglewood TW28-SNQ, and it sounds lovely, a friend of mine who plays tried it out and promptly tried to buy it from me, LOL!!!! Anyway, I enjoy all forms of music, even some hip-hop (Michael Franti from Spearhead is great). Living here in the UK there are a large number of guitar players but they seem to be mostly folk music oriented, whereas I would really love to learn flatpicking and bluegrass. I will probably be asking some questions that may seem stupid, but I really do have a very limited technical knowledge of music, so please, bear with me.

Hey welcome to the site! It's good to have you aboard, you've definately come to the right place to get a great start on your playing. Don't be afraid to ask your questions, remember; there's no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people :p :p :p
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

Hi. I can relate. I'm new and 44. But you've come to the right place. Everyone here is very patient and they will answer any and all questions. Plus, they seem to know everything. Good luck! :)

hey man, welcome to the boards, I'll try my best to answer any questions you've got (though I have been playing only about a year) though I'm not so much a bluegrass player as I am a heavy metal player... so... but if I can't answer a question, there is definately someone on here who can

Don't you like it when you're the only one that knows what you're talking about? That happens to me all the time, I say something and just expect everyone to know what I mean.

that has got to be the greatest hello I have ever had on ANY forum, you guys are terrific. I am still working on my basic chords, trying to toughen up my fingertips and train my fingers to find the chords without me looking all the time. I don't use a pick yet, but I do have a set of really nice finger picks that I have been trying out.
As far as Bluegrass bands, the first ones that come to mind are Alison Krauss and Union Station (seen them 3 times), and Nickel Creek (Alison Krauss is their producer). I admire the work of any good guitarist though, regardless of style. Pete Townshend, Steve Vai, Ry Cooder, Joe Satriani, Earl Klugh, all of them. I just felt that it was time to learn, and it seemed like a perfect way to de-stress.

Anyway folks, thanks for the great welcome, and I will be talking with you soon.

It's funny because it does seem like a way to de-stress, but that first month or so, I could've probably smashed my guitar into a thousand pieces. But anyways, welcome aboard!! Good to see you have expanded musical tastes, that will help no matter what you play! Could you imagine a Vai/Bluegrass mixture. Woah, freaky.
Sometimes I hit notes only dogs can hear.
