its totally your personal choice. sound, feel and comfort. theres no any exact solition for every type of axes and their owners. if u have cheap or low output pickups, thick strings can be a prolem as weak signal. also some sensitive pickups sounds wrong with heavy strings...

i prefer heavy strings, for high output and their general strenght...

yeah, totally your own choice. Just stick with well known brands and find a guage that feels best for you. I've been using Dean Markley Custom Lites for years. ( 9,11,16,26,36,46) Mainly cause I tend to pick heavy on the lower strings and then need the extra bend on the high strings. However, I keep my guitar synth strung with regulars cause they track better and jazz type leads don't sound as twangy.
I kinda got stuck on Dean Markley's cause when they used to be a much smaller company they had really rude pictures on the front of the pack and always included a groovy sticker to put on your guitar case.
Now though, I'll tend to look for bulk deals on eBay.

I think it was Doc Simon that said he uses Ernie Balls on his acoustic. Well whoever said it, I tried them and love them.
there have been a few threads all about strings. You could search for some. You could also go to a local guitar shop and ask someone there for some advice, but it all really comes down to personal preferance.

Strings are totally for your own tastes...there are just a few general rules to go by...or guid lines rather...and that is basically, if you are down-tuning quite a bit...best to use a heavier guage string...maybe and 11 or 12 gauge.
