Kay recently i just decided to pursue playing the guitar
im gonna go with a classical guitar before progressing to electric, but what's a good price for a sturdy guitar? I don't want to go out and waste my money on a pretty good classical guitar when i can get a better one for a cheaper price

Just make sure it's solid wood rather than ply. I haven't bought an acoustic for years but I remember washburn made resaonably priced solid topped guitars.

I started playing on a $70 ish classical guitar that was a total piece of crap, and I think it helped in the long run. Playing a guitar with a neck like a boomerang and foot high action will make you work harder - then when you get a razorblade necked shred machine you'll be able to fly.

Not saying you should intentionally buy a bag of crap, guitars are way better now, just keep in mind that guitars at the beginner end of the market (or in any bracket for that matter) are much the same. Don't get caught up on brand, just go to a store, tell 'em how much you want to spend, and then play around on everything they have. Doesn't matter if you can't play any music, just fret some notes up and down the neck...

One of them will speak to you.... :D

About the only thing I would add is this: Learning on a guitar with really high action gets you started with the notion that it takes a lot of pressure to fret the strings. That leads to something I call 'Gorilla Grip'. It's something that actually slows you down later when you try to play quickly on a better guitar.

Check out Alvarez acoustics. they play easily, sound great, and are built well. you can get some amazing values on alvarez on ebay. I'd go at least one step up from the bottom model RG8... you can get RG20 with solid top for $100-$200. You can get incredible value for $200-300 with models from their Artist series. I've played a number of acoustics - Martin, Taylor, Yamaha, and these are serious instruments.
