Check out Alvarez acoustics. they play easily, sound great, and are built well. you can get some amazing values on alvarez on ebay. I'd go at least one step up from the bottom model RG8... you can get RG20 with solid top for $100-$200. You can get incredible value for $200-300 with models from their Artist series. I've played a number of acoustics - Martin, Taylor, Yamaha, and these are serious instruments.
