so i have a cheap strat copy i've been dumping money into because i love the feel of it...the latest thing i'm gonna be doing is trying to make the coil taps on my jb jr's work.

but i'm not gonna do it the normal way. i'm gonna completely rewire it to where there are no tone knobs and instead, the tone controls act as the taps to where i can blend sounds...the only thing is i'm not sure if it will work or not. in theory, it should work...but i'm not completely sure if my theory behind this is correct because i don't have my scehmatics for my jb jr's and how they're supposed to be wired because i know it said how to set up the coil taps.

so can anyone help...and does it sound like a cool idea?
okay...my post is done...goodbye.

You cant tap your coils thru the tone controls. Coil taping is done directly from the pups. Go ahead and experiement though; whats the worst that can happen. You can always wire it back the way it was. Make a schematic just in case.

i don't think you got what i meant...i meant wire it up like you would for coil tapping but use a pot instead of an on/off switch. completely eliminate the tone circuit.

You might try a pan/blend pot like the ones used for pickup selection on a lot of basses.

you may want to pick up a book on guitar electronics from Stewart-MacDonald (www.stewmac.com).

you also may want to think about dropping a concentric pot switch in; you could do it a variety of ways.

actually i had a class on electronics when i was out in school for recording...it's just more that i don't know the schematics to my pickups and i'm not sure which wires i'll need to put where...but it should work. i hope.
