For what it's worth. Led Zep is one of the only bands i can keep coming back to and find new things to enjoy. Other bands will hold my attention for a while but don't have the same lasting appeal.

My favourite band would have to be System of a Down. I'm not saying they're like the greatest band ever, but they're MY favourite. Theres just something that makes them different from most other bands I know.

Very true. However bands now just spawned off of older bands so you would have to erase all the older bands to get a differnt direction. As an example... im going to use punk because i know most about that particular genre.. Bands like Simple Plan, GC, and all that kind of pop punk, has to thank bands like Nirvana, Rancid, Green day, and that whole generation, from drawing on thier ideas. And in turn Rancid, and Green day, they all drew on thier inspirations from the punk legends- The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Dead Kennedys, Anti-Flag, The New York Dolls, Black Flag, ect. ect. Its only when someone does something completely new that music could have evolved a differnt way.

okay see most people are into the bands that have heavy guitar styles and rarely acoustic.
my favourite artists are Jack Johnson and Ben Harper. i love acoustic stuff, did listen to vai, and satriani for awhile a few years ago, but listenin to it now sounds sterile to me with no feeling or intent behind the songs, i seem to have grown away from heavy guitar for some reason, somethin i never would have thought would happen. i used to dream of playing amazing solos with sweeps and stuff but know i have nearly forgotten how to do the technical stuff i learnt and prefer to play slow solos only goin fast when i can't think of anythin else to do (unless i reckon it would sound good goin fast wich is surprisingly rare now) dunno really where im headin with this but was wonderin if anyone else has gone through this kinda thing where they have completely turned around their style of playing.

also i heared jack johnson is pretty big in america now, but here he is still pretty much unheared of (at least to people i know) but was thinkin what you guys think of his style and playin, cos i reckon its his music which made me change from wantin to solo all day to just doin more chord based stuff on acoustic. Just interested to know what people think of his music really, cos as a guitarist i think its great.
(sorry bout the change of subject there)

Jack is getting pretty big over here (in the states). I've been a fan of his for about 5-6 years now. Ever since I heard a bootleg copy of "Flake" featuring Ben Harper. In fact, I'm going to see him live in August. His style is unique in the way that it's very relaxed and lazy... which reflects his persona. Like you, I'm a rare breed as well... My two favorite bands are Dave Matthews Band and Metallica. haha. I own a collection of Satch, Vai, Dream Theater, and a slew of other technical music as well... and I enjoy it. But I really love the raw emotion of an acoustic guitar. I have developed around this. My style is mostly bluesy... with a hint of shred. But I prefer to use my slower runs to my fast runs. I just like the way they sound in comparison to a fast solo.

haha yes!!! that Flake is what got me into both Jack and Ben Harper it was that slide bit at the end that really caught me. if anyone gonna listen to it get the live version it is amazing!

i find this the same, i reckon its because if im gonna go for speed i will play stuff i know, basically whacking out a bunch of lazy licks that i could play standing on my head. whereas if im going slow i think about it and use more interestin ideas and actually play to the melody of the song rather than GUITAR BREAK PLAY FAST and in the right key other than that it dont matter!!!!!!!

who you gonna see, jack or Ben? Saw Ben Harper in concert last year and it was amazing really never bin to a concert that actually hit me like that one his cd's,although i love them, just do no justice to the live show and the live dvd doesn't get the same atmopshere, though to be honest ya couldn't expect it to.

haha! Yeah man! But I'm going to Jack Johnson and Ben Harper w/ The Innocent Criminals. I know what you mean about cds not doing justice to live shows... that's the way it usually is though. That's why I go to a lot of concerts! It's gonna be a bad @ss show. I saw DMB just last Sunday night too. If you haven't listened to a lot of Dave Matthews stuff, I would recommend it. If you like Jack Johnson you might like DMB.

Yeah, Ben spreads out his style through lap steel, acoustic and electric. The hippies probably just would have ignored you if you tried to mosh with them... Hippies mostly just spin around in cirlces and flail their arms about in a very sparadic way... haha good ol' hippy dancers! But Jack Johnson pretty much does only acoustic stuff.

yeah he does have that to! his albums are like compalations in someways cos there are so many styles. i know what ya mean with it making ya want to mosh, when ever any of his "harder" songs come on when im drivin it makes me want to go about 100x faster.

I wanted to mosh to "Please Bleed," but I was afraid some hippy would beat me to death with his rasta hat

haha i doubt any of the "hippies" (students really) when i went to see him would have been able to beat anyone to death, just a little bit too stoned to do anythin like that! most amount of weed i ever saw was at that concert! it seemed like everyone was smokin it. especially when "Burn one down" came on, the rastafarian bongo player took a spliff from the crowd and was smokin it doin his solo was sooo good!
