Hi. My name is Jen. I was wondering if there is anyone out there that could give me some advice for just starting out learning how to play. Please help me in any way you can. Thank you!

I would first learn how to tune up your guitar correctly, then watch some videos here, and give it a try.

Find an easy song and try strumming a few chords...timing is the hardest for most.

Be patient. Practice often.

It's not work, nor school, nor life and death. (well... life, maybe... :p )

I like to split my practice time up:

Learning new stuff then goofing around.

After all... it should be fun, right? :)

What kind of guitar are ya learning on?

hi jen..

what my dad got me into doing was slowly working on scales and strumming the basic chords. Then i went on from there.

If you have any friends that play, you might ask them to show you a thing or two. Also, there a plenty of sources on the internet to help you learn (i.e. this website). If you get stuck for a considerable amount of time you may want to try getting private guitar lessons.

Getting lessons from a local music store will give u a good idea as to what you should learn and points you in the right direction, id definatley check into that, however lessons can get pretty expensive. Buy a book with chords and some of the basic scales in it and learn as much as possible. Learning to read music is very useful (although i have never accomplished it), but also learn to read "tabs". There are several lessons right on this site to guide you in that area. Time and practice make a big difference, i can not stress that enough.
We've been dancin' with Mr. Brownstone...
