Hi,
I don't understand why people buy Guitars on eBay, for exemple, an Gibson Sg Std is about 950 or 1000 $ on eBay, but on music123.com it's sold 1034 $, for a brand new Gibson.
So why buying a second hand at the same price of a Brand new ?

Thank you for your answers!

Only if your an idiot !! And there are plenty off them !

I picked up a Gibson LP studio for $600 (music 123.com ~$1124)
and a Jackson DKMG for $400 (music123,com ~$700)

both are cracking guitars !

Their are some killings to be made but you have to know when to stop bidding and go look somewhere else !!!

I treat Ebay like a great big Pawn Shop. There are tons of stuff to see there and it's fun to look at! But when it comes to buying stuff... you really have to KNOW what you're looking for, and KNOW what you're looking at. So many people get ripped off on ebay because they don't know the difference between a Mexican Fender neck and an American Fender neck... unless it says "Made in Mexico" on the headstock... it's not that hard to sand off the finish... stick another decal on there and sell it to someone that has no clue what they're buying. BUT! you can find excellent deals on there, and there are many legitamate dealers on Ebay. I've been around on Ebay long enough to where I have vendors that I trust and I know who to stay away from. If you know what you want... and know what to look for... you can get some really great deals on there!

What brand is it?

eBay is the garage sale of all garage sales. If you know what you're looking for and have a lot of patience, you can usually get a sweet deal there.

You gotta understand going into it that not all guitars sound the same and you may get really lucky or you may get hosed.

I've got both, but lucky more recently when I got an Epiphone Sheraton II for real cheap and it sounds great!

I saw on ebay, that in the last 3 days, every gibson sg std was about 900 or more inthe end of the bids !
So, it's better for 200 $ to buy a new one !

I've gotten a couple of really good deals off eBay on cheaper guitars but I wouldn't buy anything over a coupla hundred bucks. Ya need to sit down and play it for an hour before you can tell if it's right for you.
About the only reason I deal with eBay so much for music stuff is cause they accept PayPal. It's a lot safer than using other methods.

900 dollars for an sg standard.... And you say you can get a new one for 200... I think you're looking for an epiphone model and you've been looking at Gibsons... Because no one will buy an epiphone for 900 dollars. If you're looking for a sweet SG check out the SG-400 Custom by EPIPHONE. Ebay reflects supply and demand perfectly... People will pay what they want to pay and if they don't want or need the product... then it won't sell for what it's worth. Guitars that are very abundant (Mexican Strats, Strat Copies, Epiphone models, etc...) go for really cheap. So if you're a beginner looking for a guitar for cheap... check it out. Sometimes you can get your dream guitar for pretty cheap

Has anybody tried selling an item on eBay?
I tried to sell a pair of headphones once... I originally paid $190 for them and put them up for sale at $75.
The ad was up for a week, I didn't even get one bid, and then I got charged $6.75 by eBay for placing the ad.
So basically, I've never bothered sellin anything on eBay again cause it costs too much to place the ad.

How do these guys who sell things like $5 strings make money if it's costing $6 to place the ads?

If you follow the link I posted earlier, you'll see that I got $250 for a $500 guitar. I guess that's payback for the great deals I've gotten as a buyer.

As for the $5 string sets, the rates are different for power sellers who post hundreds of listings at a time.

we have sold loads of stuff and usually got a fair price.

Just be honest with people, if there is a ding, post a photo of it and all will be well.

We have 100% positive feedback off about 70 items

When my PayPal transactions were processed, I thought the fees they whacked me with included the listing fees. Not so - that just covered the exchange rate, and processing. I got a bill from eBay later for the listing.

Great topic.

I sold a fender acoustasonic amp on there that nobody wanted to buy locally. Who knew you could pack up an amp and ship it for like 30 bucks?

I bought an ibm laptop there used. It was a good buy, about 500 bucks.

Several things I have seen on ebay sell for 95% of buying it new. So I just buy it new. Everything you see on ebay, you should try to buy new first, IMHO. There seems to be no sense to the pricing sometimes.
