The originals are rare, but I've heard that it has been re-issued by another company who bought the rights to the name. Caveat emptor.

Jimi Hendrix is probably the most familiar Fuzz Face user.

You also have to be aware that these devices vary *wildly* in the sound that they produce, they are all discrete components hand soldered together, and the components were only loosely batched.

As with all these things, try before you buy. You may hate the sound. Easier solution is buy a PodXT, they model the fuzz face as a stomp box anyway.

I had one of these in the 70's, it was awful (listening to the recordings now) but I guess it was what you had to do to get the sound.

i dont know about the sound of these but i think the originals had geranium transistors so they would sound good one day and bad the next. Maybe yours was original. The one im talking about has silicon transistors.

The original did indeed have PNP germanium transistors, and since it was early days in terms of transistor production, quality was very inconsistent, and even 'good' transistors were kinda flaky. That said, the new silicon transistors don't quite 'get' it. Much like modelling is a shadow of the real thing.
