Slowly build up speed on that piece with a metronome. Play it at a speed at which you can play the whole piece without mistakes, then slowly turn the speed up on the metronome until you get it to actual speed.

Hi lilmusicluver07

Here's a few suggestions/facts/tips on playing fast and a few thoughts on this.

Practising at extremely low speeds allows you to "program" the new pattern or scale you're working on into your "Right Brain" as such. By speeding things up and making mistakes you are programming in the mistakes too. That is why it is vital for fastest learning to work just below the "make no mistakes level".

Use the Metrone as suggested by other posts and gradually speed things up. Your fastest "threshold" to start, is the speed you can play a "scale" say, WITHOUT any mistakes.

GRADUALLY speed up as the days and weeks go by - DAILY practise is vital here too. There's no need to put yourself under "speed pressure" I reckon .

These "Slow Speed" techniques have been "Scientifically Proven" and with steady persistant and use can give super results - slow it all right down and give yourself time to absorb it.

A great key to "Accelerated Learning" (including 'speed playing' itself), is through this "Slow" technique har-har!

Good Luck with it...

'Best

Also in regards to playing fast, I think it may be important to sort of "max out" every once in a while and not just play slow all the time. This may not be the best scientific approach, but after playing slow for a few hours, it helps you get a handle on how much progress you've made

thanks david and scott. i bet that will help. i practice everyday so that won't be hard to get used to at all. i just tend to practice the music at what speed it's suppossed to be at. sometimes it works but then sometimes it doesn't.

Don't forget Jolly :p

You sound determined. As long as you DO practice daily you will make great progress over time, even when it seems like you're not.
