I think your an idiot for camparing the two, or even try to compare as to who is better. This one thread i think is waste of time eddie and jimi are just two diffrent milestones in the music!!!!

Unfair comparison... Eddie has better chops, but would he have had them if Jimi never existed?
Can't compare them, especially since you did not dictate what we are comparing them on. Best is such a silly way to word it. Do you mean the best blues riffs? Prolly Hendrix. Best at dancing on stage? Best technique? Best tone?
Seems kinda trollish, dude... maybe if the question was worded differently or you compared something that deserves comparison. My personal vote - between EVH and JH, the best guitarist is the one that plays best in their particular situation. Oh wait - that's both, and so I guess it is a tie...

i call personal foul with this one. they're from two different era and without jimi, there couldn't have been an EVH or much of anyone else.
impossible call. impossible question.

Gotta agree. The nature of this comparison is too vague and ambiguous.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

Comparing guitarists is rediculous... It's like taking a painting by Rembrandt and comparing it to a painting by Michealangelo or comparing Mozart to Beethoven... How do you even find common ground to compare Hendrix to Van Halen. Hendrix played blues and Van Halen played technical rock/metal. There are too many differences to even compare them. Hendrix had the imagination to do what no one else was doing and to start musical movement that has rapidly went from Hendrix to todays virtuosos. Now look at where rock guitar is... people are talking endlessly about who is better in online forums. THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD GIUTARISTS OUT THERE! Just think about this..... people say that some of the best piano players never even play one note... or that the best Olympic swimmers never even swim one lap.... and if not for Hendrix... how many great guitar players never would have picked up a guitar???

But, I also think the parent was trolling and we got caught up in it. I mean, anyone with a brain is going to saay that it is an apples and oranges comparison, or that there is no use in comparing the two. There is a guy I play with at church. Now, I can speed around him till the cows come home, I know tons more scales and modes and my music theory knowledge way surpasses anything he knows. BUT, he strums better; has a better feel for rhythmic playing. Well, who's the better guitarist? Me, because I have a bunch of chops, or him, because his chops are more useful.
That's why I say @#%$ it and just play guitar and not worry myself with stupid comparisons and stuff

Thankfully, I've seen you on other posts and know you're joking... :p
Seriously, though, I've been saying way too many of the "Apples vs. Oranges" comparison going around and it appears that all the person is doing is trying to be trollish and get a flame war going back and forth.
So, let's move on and just bother with the posts that don't suck

Very true... but you are going the other way with it... What I was trying to show is that just because Beethoven is influenced by Mozart (Van Halen by Hendrix) doesn't make either one better than the other... Different personalities, different eras... different people...And the fact is there will always be arguments of who is better... and in the end it will never matter.
