I've decided to screw the peavy transtube 212 efx and get a good amp stack. My limit is 700. Any really good setups you can recommend? I play pretty much everything. The louder, the better. By the way, is a tube amp always better than a solid state?

No,just no....no...no.

here is the PERFECT cabinet for you...

http://avatarspeakers.com/ and have your choice of regular black tolex and grill options or carpet and grill options. The guy has great service and even better cabinets and quality.Go for the celestion G12H80's or 70/80's if you don't want to spend more than $430.

If you want to go really cheap, shoot for one of these...http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/480672/

For a head, your not going to get a good, reliable tube head AND cabinet for under $700.Solid state is plenty loud and no one will notice except you and other guitarists.

here is the best solid state 3 channel head for the price IMO...http://www.carvin.com/products/single.php?ItemNumber=SX300H&CID=GA

If you get the behringer and carvin, you'll break just over $500 and it will mop the floor with any crate crap or low end mg marshall believe me.I had an SX200 and it ripped...the 300 is the 'high gain' model.

Just to add to that. I have been using the Behringer BG412S for quite a while now, and it has been the best cabinet that I have used yet.

Reliable, sturdy, sounds good, powerful.

The cab is HEAVY though! (103 lbs if I remember right) This did'nt matter to me, but thought maybe I should mention it just in case it did to you.

I personally think it is a great cab. Just my opinion.

If it has casters, your all set...Smaller cabs just dont sound as good as full size cabinets(I'm talking the difference between an MG or cheapo Crate/hartke 4x12 cab next to a full size 4x12,not a 2x12).

I was playing a 5150II through one of those new 'smaller' hartke cabs and it was horrid...no punch,no low end, just a brittle, muddy, muffled crap sound...yuck!Just get some big heavey duty casters from home depot and get a full size cabinet...the sound is worth it.

If there's a difference, then yea i'll get a reg size. Just don't want something thats 103 lbs. For now the cab and head is going on top of a fileing cabinet due to space shortage. Were building a new house so I'll have lots of space. Any full size cabs that dont weigh that much?

Just my head weighs in at over 70lbs. I don't even want to know what the 2x15 cab I have for it (or the 6x10 I plan on buying to go along with the both of them) weighs. Count yourself lucky you're not a bassist.

The thing of it is, you get used to moving it; especially if you do any regular gigging. First, you learn to get under the weight which makes carrying it across lawns or up stairs easier and casters make pavement, concrete and floors pure cake.

My "Big" rig weighs around 160 pounds! and that's a Peavey XXX head (roughly 55-60lbs.) and a Marshall 1960a 4x12 (roughly 100lbs). So, if you plan to go with a half stack, plan on carrying some weight around. Grant it, solid state heads are typically lighter than tube heads, but you can't get around 80-110lbs. for a 4x12. Unless it's extremely cheaply made.

Well the avatars are supposed to weigh 75-85Lbs...and there depth is slightly less than most popular full size cabs(mabey because the speakers are front mounted..?).Anyway,asking to have a good sounding light 4x12 cab is like saying "I want all my groceries in one bag,but I don't want it to be heavy".

If your really concerned about weight, then just get two 2x12 cabs.

I used to live in an apartment that had a rickity staircase and a heater exhaust vent RIGHT in the way just about 2/3 of the way up the stairs.

Man, I LOVED carrying that 2x15 up and down those stairs.

I've decided to go with what chuck said. The behringer cab with the carvin head. Reviews look good for both so, anyone have any objections?

Like I stated on my earlier post, I really like the Behringer BG412S cab;
so maybe I'm biased towards it. But I've never had a problem with it having "poor low end" response.

Everyone has different opinions when it comes to musical equipment, so what one musician thinks may not be what another musician thinks.

Ultimately, you will have to decide for yourself if this cab is for you, or not. Just a friendly word of advice though; reviews on equipment are a good thing MOST of the time. But don't let one or two peoples reviews influence you to much. Look at the reviews as a whole, and then make your decision.

You won't regret the carvin head.
