I'm sure this thread's been done before, but I'm kinda new here, so...

What's the best concert/live performance you've ever been to?

For myself, it's hard to choose between Bluesfest '94 (BB King, Dr. John) and Pantera/Anthrax in '99 or '00, I don't remember.

The blues festival brought tears to my eyes they were so awesome, but I've never seen/felt anything like the energy of "****ing Hostile" live.

Other concerts I've been to:
Steve Miller, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Neil Young, Slayer, Hatebreed, Soundgarden, Rush, Leo Kottke, Houston Symphony, Metallica, BB King, Crosby/Stills/& Nash, Black Sabbath (reunion), I think that's most of 'em.

Oh man, i've been to so many great ones...here's a few memorable ones:

-311 20th anniversary show w/ Incubus (plus about 4 other times)
-Slipknot (last year's Jaegermeister tour)
-Avenged Sevenfold (twice)
-The first Family Values Tour (Korn, Limp Bizkit, Orgy, Incubus, Rammstein)

I don't know if any of ya'll are from the DC/Baltimore area, but one of the local radio stations used to have an all day event called the HFStival (WHFS was the radio station). I went to about 5 consecutive HFStivals where i saw: Offspring, RHCP, Linkin Park, Sevendust, Staind, Fuel, Jimmie's CHicken Shack, Green Day, Stabbing Westward, Live, Papa Roach, POD, Cypress Hill, Third Eye Blind, Blink 182....That's just naming a few :p . Man, those were the days...

I would love to see Dr. John! He is just too cool!

My personal favourite was AC/DC

He played at Festival International in Lafayette unannounced last year in a small club. I missed it, but I heard it was outstanding.

Best live show I've ever seen was Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals. The dude sucks you right in and his band is incredible.

Other highlights include: Primus (4x), Col. Claypool's Frog Brigade, Fishbone, Stinking Lisaveta (2x), Incubus (supporting Make Yourself), Buckethead, Hank Williams III and Assjack, Artimus Pyledriver, Clutch (6x, I think), Scissorfight (4x), Blues Traveler, Bad Brains and Reel Big Fish.

I just saw Hank III and Artimus Pyledriver last night and all I can say is that if any of you get a chance to go see either of these bands (much less both) GO.

In-freakin'-credible.

Black Label Society

The most insane crowd I have ever been in. I came out drenched in sweat, puke, and alcohol, and still had the time of my life.

well, still being a youngster ive only been to a few gigs, most of them being famous bands but my favourite gig was in my local park by a Thin Lizzy Tribute band called Fat Betty. The guitarist is called Davie Brocket and ive met and he has played my guitar and he is also thee greatest guitarist in scotland.
He was amazing.

There is really only one way to answer this question and that is to critique sound and performance. Sorry, but "Best drunk I ever had" or "Best dope I ever smoked" is irrelevant. In the 70's, 80's, and 90's I went to dozens of concerts. My favorite concert experience was on the campus of Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama in the late 70's. Billy Joel and Kansas shared the bill; both were touring to promote their debut albums. I had never heard music from either except for Billy Joel's "Piano Man" which was a huge hit everywhere there was a radio. Billy Joel came on first and essentially played the Piano Man album. The musicanship was flawless and the sound system was as crystal clear as a home stereo. I breathlessly commented to a friend of mine that Kansas could not put on better show, then Kansas came out and blew everyone away with an energetic performance that was nothing short of dazzling. A few years later, I saw Billy Joel again (the Stranger album tour) and he put on another superb show. These artists may not be "in fashion" now, but they did impress the young man who could only afford a ticket in the cheap seats.

I'd say my favorite was the G3 '03 show I caught in Pittsburgh, PA. It doesn't get much better than 5th row seats with Joe, Steve, and Yngwie.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

Another lesson I've picked up reading this thread; open mindedness.
Rather than limit myself to copying what my idols do, being open minded about gear issues might bring me onto something I wouldn't have happened upon if I didn't have an open minded approach.
Im totally envious when I see someone with nice gear. If they can't play, then it's a bit dissappointing, and I can only imagine they bought for other reasons (read to brag, blah blah blah). But if they CAN play, then I'm doubly jealous. Some people have all the luck!

Either Ozzfest 2003 down in West Palm Beach, the rain made that concert....just imagine a huge grass field becoming air born while disturbed is playing through the rain and thunder followed by Zakk ripping solo in the pouring down rain....Awesome. Or G3 2001 with Petrucci, Vai, and Satch Just the energy coming off of those guys was crazy.

Living in Denmark, the chance of going to any great concerts is limmited, though I'm going to the Roskilde Festival this year.
I did see Metallica last year and damn they were in shape. The sound qual was terrible (the place they played has terrible sound control) but damn it was wild, and they really had the crowd with them.

Cheers

Jeez, it's been over a year since I've been to a show. I need to get back on the ball or something. Last show I saw was Opeth last year and to the best of my knowledge that was also my favorite show of all the ones I'd been to.

Anything else on my mind has been held back for the sake of not being the devil's advocate right now. And to also do my part to prevent the topic of the thread to shift.
