I'd say 7, but I'm just nitpicking.

I have no idea how they pull off so much doing mostly down strokes. I've made alternate picking a vital part of my technique and refuse to have it any other way. But, yeah, like stated above, alternate picking can be accurate to the sound of down stroking. For the most part it's more of a personal feel type thing, there's a difference in sound, but it's subtle.

James and Kirk use all down strokes on the rhythm's, it add's that chunk to it that alternate picking loses. It takes some time to be able to down stroke at that tempo. Of course it can be played either way, but downstrokes gives it that extra umph to make it sound more like the recording.

Yeah, and that blows my mind (sort of). There's also a grittier sound that comes with alternate picking riffs that I've bonded with. Oh well, different sound for different situations.

I trade the downstrokes for alternate picking and speed the whole thing up some bpm's.It gets interesting when you get it going roughly twice the normal speed.
Try once,fail twice...
