Hotel California Solo
Would anybody give Hotel California a 10/10 on the difficulty scale of solos? I'm thinking of trying to learn it, I've been a fan for years; but I'm still workin on Eugene's Bag Trick which I am determined to master no matter how long it takes

its not difficult at all to play. the notes that is. but you gotta give it the right feeling and gotta get bends right etc..

Yea I think it's definitely worth it. But I think I may have to keep working on what I'm doing now, not take on too much... Always a difficult balance. You want to take on another song or solo, but you never finished the one you started :p

Eugene's Trick Bag is about a 9.5/10 while Hotel California is about 5/10 maybe.

good point jolly. I always percieved hotel calif as being extremely difficult, but really when you break it down, it's not bad. Those arpeggios in Eugene's BT are much tougher. I'll be working on those for a long long time.

But its really bad to clutter yourself up with stuff that you can't play well.
They're getting there though...
I am the same way. A little bit here and there. Ages for me it's been only one month thought :D
Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you're up to

yea I'm just now getting disciplined enough to not get too sidetracked and learn something to the end. I just wish I was good and it didn't take light years to finish learning a good tune

Yea, I guess that's why Don Felder and Joe Walsh look bored while playing it in the video online haha :p

Can someone tell me how to make that really high-pitched squeeling noise used in the solo near the beginning? is it natural harmonics or what?

For difficulty factors in playing you really should try some classical stuff. Some of Rodrigo's guitar concertos are almost off the scale in difficulty. I really do have a lot of admiration for classical players. They seem to be able to play the most difficult passages in beautiful legato. I'm currenty taking classical lessons after 20 odd years of playing blues and I feel as though I'm going back to no1 on the learning curve. It's like learning a new language.

Yea I'm definitely going to start learning some classical. I'm also gonna take a guitar class next semester, good stuff
