I have been playing guitar for a few years now, but I still feel pretty ignorant about some of the terminology. For instance, what makes a guitar a dreadnaught? What is a Floyd Rose? When is it appropriate to use a compressor, gate, or any other misunderstood or confused FX?
Please help. I want to sound like I know what I'm talkiing about.

I think it was developed in the late 70's and was considered to be the best tremelo Arm system devised, at the time to have one fitted was expensive - hundreds of pounds.

Is it the style I see on a lot of high end Gretsch and such? Very different than the Strat style.

How about the dreadnaught thing? Is it a acoustic/electric with a cutaway or something?

[font=trebuchet ms]A dreadnaught is a jumbo-bodied acoustic guitar, with or without a cutout.
