Hi! I too am new to GT.

I didn't know quite where to post this, so I posted it here. Ok...here's my frustration...

I am a self taught guitar player. I'm no where near great and I know that I have tons to learn, but I feel like I've hit a 'wall' in learning! Where do I go from here???

I feel very comfortable with most Major, Minor, 7, and barred chords. I know the neck fairly well and can play major and minor scales on the neck. What do I learn now?

I'm hungry to learn! Please help!

Thanks much!

If you havent already, switching the chords. Just go through what you know randomly. After that learn some songs. Its cool you learned that way, thats how I learned on the electric, but when I bought my acustic I used the dvd it came with.

Have a look at pentatonic scales. Then pick a song you like and learn it all the way through, solo the lot. It wont seem so hard if you have your head round pents.
My instructors page and www.studiotrax.net for all things recording.

Thanks! Now I know I am on the right track! What are Pentatonic scales?? And I suppose you use them in soloing? I don't solo well, so I know I need to work on that! How do I use the pents for soloing? Any good websites that teach soloing??

Thanks SOOOO much for all of your help!

Ah, your like me, I go back and fourth. Go to a local music store and buy some sheet music or go to a tab site for some tabs or chords of songs.

Go to http://guitartabschords.com/# for chords and how to hold them. Sign up high bandwith on here for your daily lessons since this is an awsome website to learn off of. Other than that, go to a local music store and buy a couple of book or dvd's on the basics and begginer's guides. Practice everyday, keep in mind that it takes time, patience, and practice to start playing your first songs. Don't be upset if you can't play much within a couple of weeks. Just keep practicing. As I always say, you need dem calluses. You will need them to play most chords, or you will hit "duds".Also practice scales.
That should get you started. What kinda music do you want to play? What kinda guitar you got, elec or acustic?
