When writing a song, you just have to be emotional in some way or another to get the fullest lyrics out of it that you can. Its like running a car on full instead of empty/...\

The best emotion for writing a song is DESPAIR!!!!
Only kidding. I prefer insanity. That's not so much an emotion as a state of mind in which I write songs...not to mention live.
(P.S. I'm not actually insane)

hmm... depression, 'the world hates me', 'I'm not good enough', or basically anything that will depress someone, these seem to be the songs that sell the most....
so Pantallica's mom is the first step to insanity? wow... I've been insane for a while then...

I think when you use the aforementioned emotions such as despair, depression, anything gloomy, those songs are the easiest to write, (for me)but not necessarily the best finished product.

A good song has something to say! The emotions that you express are going to be part of that. There is no 'best' emotional state. How well it all comes together is what makes a song work or fail.

I dont write lyrics for my songs but when I write music I stay away from anger now. Everything turns out sloppy and the adrenaline burns me up. I like writng under a positive, creative feeling, the shred head's best friend Also Despair works very nice for fat distorted chords and melodic death riffs hehehe. You're right Dsythe the Heart-ache method is a killer lol, CMT anyone?

You could always try writing from the likes of, say, my perception... that being basicaly any and every possible thought you can come up with at random, irregardless of how stupid and off topic it may or may not be, and shoot them all in no particular direction long enough to manage to get enough words in no particular order down on paper in which case you would pressume to scream in, yet again, no particular fashion over what may or may not be referred to as music and/or noise. Upon reading this and using such ideas the performer/composer here by agrees to accept any negative views/harsh criticism/contempt bestowed upon his or her own self from friends/family/loved ones/etc. for any length of time. Performers/composers here by also agree that any loss of money/respect/self respect/sanity is also his or her own responsibility and fault for taking such a haphazardous approach to writing.

His pretty much saying its a self reflected image, that your giving people.
Another thing is what ever type of song you compose thats how people will judge you....its pretty much saying the type of character that you are.
ex.
popy girly, cant sing. britney spears or ashley simpson.
anger, death, fast. metallica or megadeath
of course theres many other categories.
its all up to you on what character you want to reflect to people.

I'd say any emotion that makes you drop what your doing and attempt to convey it through song is good enough.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

This is not exactly an answer to your question, but it's something you might wanna read. It's a thread i started regarding artists and pain. See how people felt about it.
