I am doing a speech for one of my courses that praises guitar solos. I would like some input to how I can go about doing this.

Listen to alot of them, in many different styles. May I suggest a few.

"Crossroads" Eric Clapton with Cream.

"Little Wing" Stevie Ray Vaughan

"Texas Flood" Stevie Ray Vaughan

"Cliffs of Dover" Eric Johnson

"Eruption" Eddie Van Halen

"Taxman" Paul McCartney, The Beatles, Revolver LP.

"Something" George Harrison, The Beatles, Abbey Road LP.

Probably some Yngwie in there somewhere, all the kings (B.B, Albert, Freddie), Albert Collins, Jimi Page, Hendrix, Segovia, various acoustic guitar solos..... etc.

Figure out which ones you like, why, and talk about it. :D

Peace,
-Rick
Play what you hear
Listen to what you play
Does it sound good?

There's been a lot of top 100 lists this year with accompanying editorials.
Try using Google to find some stuff and just paraphrase. (ie, kinda copy what the other guy said but do it in your own words)

Don't forget to give credit! You don't want to be expelled for plagiarism!

I would probably say something about todays solo-guitarists being yesterdays
Mozart, Beethoven etc, but with the difference that todays guitarists have more
artistic freedom within the wide spectrum of theory and basic rules for musicianship
as the demand for structured entertainment remains constant as a result of
the increased tolerance in the modern audience vis-Ć -vis for example the early
17th century understanding of music as an outstanding artform; a strictly organized
hierarchy in where the musicians, especially during the baroque era would
blablablablabla...

Well you get the picture, alot of words without any real substance.
It worked for me in school.

Paraphrasing isn't plagiarism. It's taking someone elses editorial, reading it, and then writing your own version about the subject using your own words.
Plagiarism is copying what somebody else has written or taking somebodyā€™s elseā€™s idea and trying to pass it off as original.

You have to give credit for paraphrased materials. In a research paper, for example, a paraphrased sentence MUST have a citation at the end, even if there are no actual quotations.

But this is a speech.
What's he supposed to do, whisper a citation into the microphone after every paraphrased sentence?

Depending on whether or not he's going to be handing in a transcription, he may need to turn in written citations. Also, he can give verbal credit without whispering a citation.
