The DS1 is not a mega melt down pedal but is a bit more aggressive than the blues driver.

For the money, spend a extra couple of bucks and get the OD-20. I have one and it is great !

You will never need another distortion pedal ever again !!
My instructors page and www.studiotrax.net for all things recording.

The OD-20 is actually about twice the price of a Metal Zone over here in Aust, but then again... Its 20 PEDALS IN ONE!

But still, I think I'll just get a digitech RP for now.

DS-1 is my favorite distortion pedal. It's simple, has good tone control (not just a high-cut), has enough distortion for my needs (I try not to compress my tone too much with distortion),although it might not be suited for extreme metal, it is aggressive. It is used by many pro's such as Vai, Satriani and alike.
Anyway, I don't really need 20 distortions, but if you do, go with the flow.
Impendance is fruitfull
while the buttons are circled.
