Whatever ya do, don't ever buy a Philips toaster oven.
I figured, what the heck, get a toaster oven for the studio so we can heat up leftover pizza's and stuff.
Trouble is, when you turn it off with the door open, it automatically goes into toaster mode when you close it up again, and lights up full blast in toaster mode.
So today, my intern girl heats up a pizza...takes it out...closes the door and walks away.
I'm sitting here thinking "man, does that oven ever stink".
I walk into the other room and the whole damn thing is on fire.... it's spreading up the walls, my posters are on fire, my plastic cups are melting.
Being the dumb guy I am, I open the oven door... the oxygen hits the fire and it bursts out of the oven and singes my eyebrows.... now the fire's about 5ft high, my smoke detector goes off.... and I think "FIRE EXTINGUISHER"
I grab the extinguisher (that's been attached to the wall for about 3 years and never used).... and can't move it... finally I pull it off the wall...screws and everything..... spend 3 minutes trying to figure out how to get it working...(pull the pin) and finally spray the damn thing at the oven.
2 seconds later the fire's out. And the whole studio is filled with so much fog and smoke you can't see a thing.
So...I guess the moral of the story is: Never buy a crappy Philips toaster oven, and if you buy a fire extinguisher...learn how to use the stupid thing beforehand, so you don't end up ripping it off the wall.

Needless to say it stinks in here now.... I just bought a new Black&Decker oven and fire extinguisher.... and now I need a new intern who knows how to cook without setting the place on fire.

Man that sucks, however it could have been worse!

On the positive side, if no one was hurt and no mega-bucks kit was totaled then it ain't a real catastrophe !

You have an intern? Is your studio your main job now?
... and that's all I have to say about that.

Agreed, I'll rig a philips toaster oven to burn down my house, then we'll go in on a class action lawsuit and never have to work again. At the very least cash in on some insurance fraud. Yippee!

Yeah, I've had a few of em now. Just go to the local college or high school (dressed appropriately) and ask the office if they know of any music students that would be interested in interning in a studio & leave a brochure, your card & web address & ask em to put something up on the bulletin board. You get a buncha phone calls and just by asking some basic questions and talking to a few of them, you figure out which one's are going to get the most out of it.
They get freebie lessons on how the studio works, and you don't have to clean up after yourself anymore.

yeah, I realise it wasn't her fault...god I hate the word intern... it always reminds me of Lewinski..blech.
It's probably my fault actually. Well it's the ovens fault for not shutting off properly but I kinda treat those small ovens like disposable appliances. I figure it's not going to last very long so why clean it and take care of it. The stuff that caught fire was probably some melted cheese I didn't clean up from the last time I used it. My newest complaint is the crappy fire extinguisher.
Only one use and I have to recharge it already? What's up with that?

To tell ya the truth I can't remember.. I'd had one slice already and this was the second one but I can't remember eating it. If not, it's still inside the oven covered in white powdery stuff from the fire extinguisher, waiting for the trash guys to come. And today is trash day..woohoo!
