Hi all, I’m new to the forum. I guess this is my first thread. Has anyone here checked out the two new Dean signature series guitars? The Michael Schenker V and the new Dean from Hell have got to be some of the best things to come out this year. I love the paint job on the V and I think its great to start off Dimebag Darrell’s comeback with a re-make of his legendary lightning ML.

 amazing

I play a Dean EVO and am absolutely in love with the thing. Once I get some cash flow I will definately be buying some more dean models, but the EVO has served me well thus far. Dean guitars definately go under the radar in terms of quality and cost-effectiveness.

Does anyone know a cheaper, safer way to import guitars from overseas than ebay?

I'm pretty sure you have the option of spending a little for insurance on the package. Make sure it's insured for more than you're paying for it originally.

I have to agree that Dean makes a great axe, but they're in a little bit of hot water right now. They advertised the EVO XM with a mahogany body and sold a pile of them only to turn around and relist it with a Basswood body (it never came with a mahogany body).
Be carefull with the lower end stuff....you might not get what you paid for.
I'm even a little leary about the higher end stuff....if they can lie about a cheapy, what's stopping them from doing it with the other ones.

Shame, cause the axe plays beautifully...I can only imagine the tone if it actually had a mahogany body.

Can you find me a link for this story? I'd like to read more about it.

There isn't anything in the media (yet) about this, cause it's myself and another that are going through it now. We bought XMs thinking that we were getting mahogany body guitars (just like their site, and every other site, said) So when they chaged it on their site, we contacted them via email. We were told that if we didn't like them to take them back!! I couldn't believe what I was hearing. That night we got a call from one of Dean's employees who ripped a strip off my buddy cause we upset the girl that got the email. This was a little strange cause the emails were quite professional and simply stated that we wanted what we ordered- a mahogany body guitar. We were imediately told that it wasn't going to happen. So in retaliation, we quickly explained that false advertisement, even as a mistake, was against federal law... boy he didn't like that. He just kept saying that it was a mistake. I understand that mistakes happen...but one that was there for MONTHS is no longer a mistake.

We are currently in converstions with Dean Zelinsky and due to the untimely death of Dimebag Darryl, this will no dount be put off for a bit. (I can understand this..I'm not heartless. *don't tell my wife* :D)

So I'm hoping that Dean Z can come to some resolution, cause I'd hate to have to return the axe and go with another manufacturer. I bought the XM as a test guitar. I figure if a company can make their bottom line play and sound good, thier good stuff should be of great quality and tone. Dean did this well...I'm just not happy with the customer service. If it can't be resolved, then I don't know what's next...but I sure won't buy anymore Deans. Looks like I'll deal with Ed Roman guitars and import them up here to Canada. I'll pay more for better customer service rather than save a few bucks.

And NO, hardtails are mid-range unless you get the USA then you're talking Deans high end stuff.
