Sorry for my bad English!!
What is it with Ghost notes?
Well, I'm really new at this guitar playing, and so far I'm traying to master some easy and basic techniques. Reading some tabs from other songs I found about ghost notes. Still, I don't understand what they are because I couldn't find some information about them, any idea or guide about ghost notes will be welcome!!

Ghost... notes? Umm... never heard of them actually. Could you give an example? They could be perhaps something else that someone gave a different title...

Ghost notes are notes that are not played but are either implied or are grace notes (that is, you can play them, but they're not in the original piece). At least, that's how I learned it.
OR
Ghost notes are notes that play when you're all alone in the house and it's dark and all your amps are off and your guitars have no strings on them.

... and that's all I have to say about that.

I think ghost notes are actully "mistakes" the original artist made. They hit a note and when changing to another note, they may have accidentally hit a string with a finger and faintly sounded a note while in the process of moving from one note to another. At least that's the way I've alway's looked at. I usually ignore ghost notes..

I am a beginner and I'm learning "The man who sold the world". I ussually learn with gp4 files and it's like this:
0---0-
2-x-2-
2-x-2-
2-x-2-
0-x-0-
0---0- and so on.
So how do I play this xxxxx and when do I strum up and when down.

The x's are dead notes (Dead notes, ghost notes... hahaha...). Basically you just cover the strings and don't let any real distinct sounds come out. I guess you could say you're muting them. And that looks like an upstroke (The dead notes) Down up down. :P

Hmmm.... I don't usually call them "dead" notes. Normally I see it referred to as "picking hand muted" or "muted" strums.

I and my non-guitarist friends have always called them X notes.
