I think ghost notes are actully "mistakes" the original artist made. They hit a note and when changing to another note, they may have accidentally hit a string with a finger and faintly sounded a note while in the process of moving from one note to another. At least that's the way I've alway's looked at. I usually ignore ghost notes..
