Alright this is maybe a stupid question but here goes...

How do you make that weard high note, mostley used by heavy metal bands.
Like in duality from slipknot, if you know what i mean.

Well thats my question even though its a stupid question i hope someone will understand my question and give me an answer.

Uhh... pinch harmonics would be my guess of what you're talking about. Could be some pedal effect, but I doubt it.

yeah sound like a pinch harmonic is what your talking about it's done by picking a note and leting your right thumb hit the string directly before or after the pick strikes the stirng this is an advanced method so if you are just starting out it WILL take time to get right .(but it definatly impresses those who do not play) :)

If the high note your referring too is done by Zakk Wylde (the Zakk squeal) then it is an artificial (pinch) harmonic. That's his trademark thing. You can hear it all over Black Label Society albums and Ozzy albums. The guys from Slipknot use so many effects it's hard to tell. It could be a whammy pedal he's using, which they do use.

wind up your gain (and a newish set of strings helps).

Grab your pick near the tip so that you can touch the string with the fleshy part of your finger or thumb.

fret a note and then pluck the same string whilst lightly touching the string with your finger or thumb.

Try this in a couple of different places (like touching the sting over the top of the bridge pickup or over the top of the bottom of the neck).

They take a bit of practice and you have to be on the ball to remember where about you want to touch the string to get the squeal you want, but that is how it is done !

Try searching in the tricks section under 'pinch harmonics' too then sort by audio.
There's tons with MP3's attached.

quite tricky to do on the high strings i find, but on the d string the sound is more promenant, set to rhthym pick up, high gain and a metal sound and its way easier.

Boosting the mids seem to help make them easier also....
