If the high note your referring too is done by Zakk Wylde (the Zakk squeal) then it is an artificial (pinch) harmonic. That's his trademark thing. You can hear it all over Black Label Society albums and Ozzy albums. The guys from Slipknot use so many effects it's hard to tell. It could be a whammy pedal he's using, which they do use.
