Okay, I ain't the richest bastard in the world so I ain't got "good" gear :P

My guitar is a Les Paul copy (it ain't that bad I suppose), and I decided to replace the pickups with some good ones my local shop recommended (Schaller they're called I think, I hadn't heard of them...costed $100 for both).

My amp is a Marshall MG30DFX (bah, the MG series is sooo crap..) but I use the Marshall Jackhammer distortion pedal instead..

My problem is, when I solo (chords sound fine) or attempt to shred, I get unwanted feedback (I've got my palm over the other strings to prevent feedback) but I still get it..(it sounds like theres air coming out of the amp )

Is it my rig or what? I've got a band together now and I don't want to be practising with a setup like that.

Cheers

Sounds like you've got your levels way too high. Try turning down the level on your pedal and cranking the volume on your guitar. Also, keep the amp volume as low as you can while still getting the right tone and enough volume.
... and that's all I have to say about that.

ALL generalizations are WRONG

Invest in better equipment, the guitar should be ok, but the amp has got to go. Nothing affects your sound more than your amp. Even a Hondo with decent Pups can sound good through a good amp.
