I'd assume tremolo picking is the same as (what I call) speed picking. Usually its a repeated hit on the same string at a rather fast speed. Its sort of like pinch harmonics; once you've learned how to do it its a piece of cake. I turn my pick so the edge hits the string. Seems to be faster that way...

And what songs exactly are you trying to learn?

Tremolo usually means moving the volume up & down. Only thing I can think of is they might mean plucking a note with the volume down and raising the volume after then note's been plucked. If you do it quickly on each note you get a fake steal guitar sound.
... never heard of 'tremolo picking' before tho...

Yeah you have. Like the Dick Dale song "Miserlou" from Pulp Fiction.

Being self taught and never really having the chance to learn from other guitarists until recently, I'm not very well versed in guitar terms. So I may or may not be right. So yeah... who knows.

Slipknot? No comment. :D

Also for easy songs with Trem picking try Metallica's "Hit the Lights". Its said to have it in there, if that is what you're talking about...

Tremolo picking is just rapidly playing a note or chord, sometimes with a slight vibrato, for the duration it is listed.

tremolo picking is a technique for metal songs(Mostly). slayer, soulfly, slipnaut, fear factory, and even some older metallica songs use tremolo style picking. basically tremolo picking-is moving the pick up and down(this can also be called alternet picking). The difference between alternet picking and tremolo is that tremolo is picked very fast(Thats why you have to use both up and down strokes because you can only go so fast using down strokes),alternet picking is up and down strokes at any speed. tremolo picking is easy to learn but takes a while to get the triplets, and quadruplets accuret so just make up your own riffs thats usually the easiest way to get better. something like this ----------5--7-----------3--5---------------
----------3--5-----------1--3-----------------
-000-000-------000-000-----------------------
This basic riff is done in triplits-down up down up motion.
