New Guitar...need some opinions....
I'm looking to aquire a new guitar sometime in the near future and i was hoping to get some insight. I know that in the end, it's gonna come down to trying out a bunch of different ones and deciding whats most comfortable for me, but anyways... I currently own 2 Carvins and theyre both extremely well-made guitars. They're also a great bang-for-the-buck, and thats important. I'd like something thats best suited for METAL, and looks do count. Im not a real big guy and neither are my hands lol, so nothing with a huge wide, fat neck. With that said, lets hear some suggestions! Thanks.

Load up one of those carvins with a couple DiMarzio X2Ns or some other such ballsy pickup and they'll rock as hard as anything else you'll find. For hot single coil pickups you might try the Sinner from Bare Knuckle Pickups.

Well, the one i play most already has a duncan custom in the bridge and dimarzio PAF Pro in the neck. Whats the deal with jacksons or esp? I love the loook of the Jackson Rhoads models, but ive heard theyve got real fat necks....

I've never played at jackson.
If you're going to be getting a new guitar and not just swapping out pickups my top recommendation would be the Katana (by Cort).
You'll notice it looks like a Schecter C-1 model. This is because Cort actually makes Schecter's guitars (except for their custom shop).

Despite my ranting about Daisy Rock, my next axe will be a Jackson. Something with turbo +20db EMG nutter PUs and a Floyd Rose. I have had FRs in the past and really don't like them however my LP / PRS really aint made for all that wammining !
I am going to avoid the funny shaped ones as I have had Vs and explorers in the past and while the explorers aren't so bad the Vs are really uncomfortable !

A friend of mine got the Rhoads model Jackson, and i'd have to say at the least that it's quite different. i really do like it, but it takes quite a bit of getting used to. And also, you really have to stand up while playing it because it wasn't made to sit on your lap

Some people have smaller hands or just prefer thinner necks for the feel.

Fatter necks are also supposed to be good for tapping

haha yeah, there are a lot of poeple that think that a fat neck is bad. mostly a neck is ment to fit your hand but they do also matter with speed and stuff. Jackson, usually makes very thin necks, which are great for sliding and stuff. BC Rich, in my opinoin makes the best neck shape. They are nice on my hands and are fast but you still have some wood under your hands. making it feel more stable.
for metal, id reccomend a jackson, any model, or a bcrich, something classic like a mockingbird or a bich. i myself got a mockingbird and after moving the strap button to the neckplate, because it has a serioussss balence issue, along with the kelly... and i think im just rambing by now so ill stop!

I never said a fat neck is bad, but for me, i think i need something thats easier for me to get my hand around. I've been playing for 8 years but im not really at the point where i wanna be with my playing. I wanna get more into shredding and whatnot, so i need something suitable for that.

When you say "Fat' do you mean wider (increased fret-board radius making it flatter) or deeper (U as opposed to a C) ?
I hate thick chunky necks but Im very happy on a wider one !

An increased fretboard radius doens't necessarily mean a wider fretboard.

Yeah, might be better if you refer to that as Fret width not neck width.

I got real lucky when I bought my baby. I saw it, thought Id test and the neck couldnt have been better. Its an RG570dx with a massive set of balls and it shreds pretty darn well.

Another good option would be a Godin Freeway Classic. It's the best thing on the market anywhere near its price.

Im curious if anyone here has any experience with Carvin guitars. Both of my electrics are Carvin. Part of me wants to get another Carvin because theyre so well built and when you factor in the price, its practically a steal. I mean, a neck-thru guitar with an ebony fretboard, locking sperzels, graphite nut (plus a ton of other high-end features). Not to mentin, theyre USA built. For $650, no other manufacuter can touch them in terms of features and overall craftsmanship. BUT, the other part of me wants to get something else...you know, a little variety. aaahh, life's tough decisions........
