Nice. I cant wait to get my first all tube amp.
I've heard the tsl100 is a pretty good amp. I havnt heard it yet though. I know my friend has one and he really likes it.
Hope you enjoy it ;)
Oh.. hope you enjoy your kittens too :p
By virtue of their electrical properties, tubes generate a special waveform when they're saturated, which is why tube engineering has tremendous tonal advantages over solid state or DSP solutions, particularly for crunch and lead sounds. Tubes enter the saturation zone gradually or softly, which lends tube-driven tone its trademark yet totally unique character.

Cheers dude, now to work out how to pay for it !

3 channels, two FX loops and enough volume to knock the bollox of a large elephant...

splendid !

Now, all I need is a fiendish machine that stops my neighbors from getting us evicted !

Your first all tube amp, well at least you started with something small and manageable (hee hee), I think they have invented a device to keep you from getting evicted, it's called a moving van, used proactively it may save you, better head for the corn fields boy, Doc all I can say is, you da man and you have definetly got the worst case of G.A.S. of anyone I know, you may just wind up in one of those medical journals!........................ :D

It is truly a disgraceful sign of the times....

6th Marshall (~10th amp) and the first Marshall that is all tube (cos the Fender vibrochamp doesn't count on account of having no bladder I mean gain control) !

I like to think of my case of GAS is being spread over the 24 years I have been playing and recently I am only making up for the 20 odd years of being skint as a schooly and as an impoverished student !

or maybe Im just a pig !

Either way is OK by me !!!

Aw, Doc, ya gotta get two of those cabs! They make absolutely outstanding end tables for the living room, and then they're always ready for when some yabbo at your party begs you to play something. :)

I am fighting this desire right at this moment !

Especially the bit about dropping 4x12 cabs on yabbos (or kittens) !

Ha just wait until my bank balance recovers, a 4 x 12 cab for each ear !

Congrats on both occasions.

Getting tube amps is always interesting, you seem to have made a good choice. Of course, I've known someone whose first valve amp was a 300 watter so by comparison most people here are pretty bright about these things.

What was the reason for your choice of head compared to other Marshall head models, like JCM?
WWSD? What would stevie do?

Well I have an MG series and for solid state it is OK however I want tubes !
I have had AVTs (tube solid state hybrids) and I really don't like them so they were out.

I have seen the JCM800 and JCM900 in action and they were cool but old hat so I thought I'd go for the good old JCM2000. I tinkered with one in a store and liked it so figured I'd take the plunge.

The bells and whistles on the TSL were cool and it had a VPR feature (virtual power reduction which turns it into a 25 w studio amp) in-conjunction with a power-break attenuator means I can get those tubes saturated with out blowing off the roof (which I suspect it is more than capable of doing !).

Anyway it arrived yesterday and I just can't believe how big it is. My whole mind recoils at the sheer size of the bruit ! I have attached a couple of photoes however they just don't do it justice !

It sounds very nice out of the box however I have some major exploring to do with all of those buttons !

Naw, what you need is a big mofo AMPEG.

Something compact and subtle...

like an early-70's SVT ...

with a lil' ol' 810 cab...

or two...

Ampeg, nice kit but there'd be no room for me and the misses !

Cousin Bobby "lead 50" Marshal is in the Uk at the moment, he is staying with Uncle 120W Peavy Bandit

Well I have had it for 24h now and have maybe played in for 4 (don't know what I wasted the other 20 doing !!) and I am in tone heaven !

I suspect my feet are still too far off the ground to give a really subjective opinion however...

The VPR in conjunction with the powerbreak gives you loads of volume controle...perfect ! (I know bad pun!)

The duel FX loops look brilliant. They can be used a a volume cut with a dummy jack (I now have 6 preset volumes to play with).

The foot controller input is on a printed circuit (bad / very week) however if you loop your cable through the caring handle (liek your guitar lead) you can minimize any stress on the input.

Well enough of this blather, what does it sound like?

Well ...great !

I have had Fenders, (wonderful) an LP and my PRS through it and they all sound very different and really great. I haven't even begun to discover all of the sonic possibilities with the beast but with a minimum of tweaking it sounds lovley...and doubtless the best is yet to come !

Congrats on your first all tube amp. When I went tube, there was no turning back, sounds like you have that opinion now.

I have had a couple of very old all tube Fenders in the passed and really didn't like them, so now it is Marshall's turn to redeem tubes, and so far well...so good !

I am a lover of Marshall's, but I've been thinking about getting the new Mesa Boogie Road King, it's just so damn expensive though (Imagine that it being a Mesa). It's got 4 6L6's and 2 EL34's that you can switch to a number of different combinations. It's like 6 or so tube amps in one.
