Does anyone know how to get that John petrucci or steve vai kind of sound. I know the pickups they use but i would like to know the kind of distortion they use because it sounds great and has lots of sustain.

Cliffs of Dover - definately some delay; sounds like a pronounced pong (double) on just a couple hundred milliseconds. There's a healthy dose of chorus, with maybe a tiny bit of flanger. And finally, there's distortion, duh. Sounds like most of it is played using the neck pickup, if that helps.
"You must stab him in the heart with the Bone Saber of Zumacalis... well, you could stab him in the head or the lungs, too... and the saber, it probably doesn't have to be bone, just anything sharp lying around the house... you could poke him with a pillow and kill him."
