My friends uncle has a very unique guitar because ones you strum it and mute the strings the sound remains(it does not mute at all). it was bought in the 1980's and was repaired in a local area. they put some kind of a cloth... any one of you heard about the same guitar?

What's the name brand of the guitar? Explane the "cloth" thing in a bit of detail, I have never heard of anything like that before.
Jimmie showed me alot of stuff, but there was a time when he warned, 'If you ask me to show you anything again, I'll kick your ass.' Well, I did and he did. - SRV

Sorry it took so long, but I've moved this thread to Gear.

Is there anything written on the headstock (the bit at the top of the neck with the tuners in it) either as an inlay or a decal ?

This is starting to make even less sense. If the body of the guitar is lined with cloth then it would absorb and deaden the sound not increase the sustain.
