Hmm.. i guess this goes here. Does it seem to you people like many of some of our favorite songwriters fuel is provided by drugs, whether it be pot, heroin or acid or whatever....not always a good thing not always bad either, but then i like stuff, green stuff. i love that face

Well it is not a new thing !

Pot was not introduced to humanity by Bob Dylan even if he did give it to The Beetles !

I just read about that. I know pot is not new, I definately don't condemn it, I like it, hehe. Hmm...well what do you guys think about using drugs to influence your writing?

The same as with anything else, moderation is the key !!

Drugs can do some very bad things as well as good and even things that feel as good as "E" can lead to personal disaster !

A clear mind is the most creative, alot can be made of certain people that used drugs and wrote many great songs, but alot of them are in the grave now and not really doing much good writing anymore too, and since brains are one to a customer, it's kind of hard to do much comparison of what the altered brain creates vs. the unaltered. Having done over 10 years of field research on the effects of drugs and alcohol on the brain, ( code for partying, ;) ), the conclusion I came to was, I wish I had my time and money back, the only thing I created was alot of trouble for myself.........

Very wise words, I don't even smoke cigarets these days and that is a vast departure from my youth !

I think another interesting question is....

"would these people (Muddy Waters, Lennon / MaCartney, Richards / Jagger, Hendrix, Joplin etc) have written great songs with out the aid of drugs / alcohol ?"

and I think the answer is yes !

Disagreed. While they would be good artists, they wouldn't be who they ended up as. Jimi Hendrix wailing away on the wah wouldn't have that personal pyschadelic-thing going on.

But as far as heroin or cocaine; I'm against both of those, because I've seen many of my musical icons (Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Jerry Garcia, Charlie Parker) go down the tubes from addiction to these drugs. Now, while it's true that Miles Davis did get off the coke and heroin, Charlie Parker never did, and died at 34 years of age. Jerry Garcia's musical ability diminished after years of heroin and cocaine use, and Coltrane...well I love Coltrane's music and can't really tell a difference from the drugs and Coltrane. But you know they are there.

Drugs have nothing to do with it. Most people on drugs don't become rock gods.
Bass guitar is the answer to everything
