Liaho, Liimatainen, Li, Loureiro, Cooley?

Why dosen't anyone give heavy metal credit. All these guys have better styles than Malmasteen.
Alexi Liaho - Children of Bodom (Sounds better than anyone)
Jani Liimatainen - Sonata Arctica (Speed/technical)
Herman Li - Dragonforce (as fast as u can)
Kiko Laureiro - Angra (tapping/seeping at top speed)
Rusty Cooley -This guy is a machine (insanity)

Well... what makes these guys good? Speed? Malmsteen is only known for his speed and therefore he has a good style. Unfortuantly, his style is playing as fast as you can. Then you could say Marcus Paus is the best guitarist...
Speed is overrated in guitar now ... just use it as a tool guys

there not given crdit because most of those you listed are BORING and repetative...no one wants to listen to a man fly down the A minor scale at 1 billion notes a seconds
Malmsteen is known for his style too..not just only his speed plus he sorta brought the speed thing into play...him and others too Its jsut too much to type out their names

Malmsteen does at some points play with some feel, listen to derek sherinians solo album, and listen to his awesome classical acoustic guitar stuff. He is alot more interesting to listen to then most of those poeple named above. Although Alex Liaho iS very good.

I don't know about those others, but Alexi Laiho is certainly one of my idols. And the thing is, he's one of the few guitarists who can play fast and write complex songs at the same time. He writes virtually every Children of Bodom song by himself. And he plays clean as hell.

there are plenty of guitarist that can right comlex songs..most of who are unknown...it doesnt have to be fast to be complex and I certainly dont find many of his (Alex) songs to be complex...but thats just my humble opinion...
I guess ive grown out of the "speed means everything and If you dont play fast and clean then your not a good guitarist ect" stage
and no im not saying hes a bad guitarist...

I agree, Alex is probley my fav guitarest at the moment. she he a awsome stage presence also.

That's your personal oppinion and i'm not gonna flame you for it even tho u deserve it. Just 2 things i wanna say:

1. Malmsteen's music is not heavy metal. It does have influences from the aforementioned genre, but it just isn't.

2. Malmsteen is indeed famous for his speed, but that's just utter stupidity.
What makes him WAY better than the other guitarists you mentioned is the fact that he combines this speed with flawless execution and a very common sensical song composition, which i haven't seen in any other misician.

Malmsteen has another ace up his sleeve:
He's a diva of enormous proportions!

Besides that, there are alot of people that can do everything better
than anyone. You thought Ronaldo (or whomever) is the best soccerplayer?
No, theres probably someone out there 10 times better.
Is Bruce Dickinson the best singer ever?
No there is probably 1000's of people better than him.

There will allways be great artists, sportsmen, dancers, hackers that
will never become famous, thats just the way it is.

Ok these guys are somewhat famous, but still.

and for being as fat as he is, he has a HOT wife...lol and his own recordin studio in his house...I dont even have a Mic to record stuff...how sad...lol
He has a pretty cool style too when hes not playin real fast

You know, I might actually listen to Alexi Laiho and similar guitarists if it weren't for the horrid death metal grunt vocals. Can't stand that crap. If Laiho composed "listenable" songs, then sure, I'd check him out. Just not a fan of stuff like Morbid Angel or Cannibal Corpse. That stuff is extremely boring and almost humorous to me. Vai, Malmsteen, or even Satch could all go and join death metal bands and play blistering metal solos/riffs, but they don't. Cuz they have taste. :p

hey now..... Trey Azagthoth has tastes and some of his solos are really dark sounding and not just fast...I like morbid angel mainly because of the guitars...thats just my thing, but I will agree, I dont really like the grunts in death metal and I rarely like the singer
I guess we all have our own tastes here...I dont really like satch or vai but I like malmsteen and Friedman and that little chinese girl that puts me to shame :(

Alexi is not the typical death metal vocalist you think of. He is nothing like Cannibal Corpse. I cant listen to CC becuase of the vocalist, but I came around to liking Laiho after a while. Sure Id change it if I could, but I focus on the guitar rather than the voice.

Lahio has much more of a punk voice than a usuall heavy metal growl. Lahio is one of my biggest influences and hes one of the best out there. He doesn't always play fast, though a majority of his riffs are. Angels Don't Kill isa prime example.

I have no idea what your on about saying they dont get credit, they get plenty in the metal guitarist community players that dont get credit are people like
- Petri Lindroos From Norther
- Kris Ranta From Norther
- Niklas Sundin From Dark Tranquility
- Karl Sanders From Nile
- Mikael Åkerfeldt
- 90% of all metal rythem guitarists
(even though im lead i think they get little credit)

I agree Jani doesnt get any where near as much credit as he should his amazing so is Sonata arctica if you get over those cheesy songs :p

Also as for Finger_cruncher, screaming metal growls and harsh voices isnt tastless its more of an aquired taste. Dont diss genres of music just because you only like the music thats put right in front on you, search a little in the world of metal music theres something for most.

Probaly true except sports person..
If your good you will be known as its a competative activity and you can directly be judged against some one in skill and thats the only thing in question so being a better player means your well better then them.
Unlike music which is oppinionated, more people like 3 chord songs then songs at 180bpm with the rythem being played in hemi-semi-quavers every one has to admit the 2nd player is better then the 1st but you dont win in guitar so that makes it general unesecary to play that fast, you make music so being better doesnt mean you make better music.
