This Cowboy Rides Again
Strumming patterns really add to rhythm playing, and the boom chick pattern is a useful one. It's also known as root/5 strumming, and there's two ways to do this. I'm using only downstrokes, and building an A progression in the first four guitar lessons. In the last two I changed to a 16th note pattern, using up and downstrokes. Use this playing country, or bluegrass, and take your rhythm to the next level!
This tutorial on the Boom-Chick Strumming pattern was inspired by our site to show you how useful it is. In the first four lessons I show you the pattern using the 1, 4, and 5 chord in the key of A, followed by a progression in the next lesson. I change to a 16th note pattern with a D chord in the fifth lesson, and then finish up with a D progression using the 16th note strumming pattern.
