Practicing Open Chords In A Major

Description

In this tutorial we’ll practice the open major chords in the key of A: A major, D major and E major. We’ll practice playing them in time with a backing track using some basic strumming patterns.

We’ll start with whole notes, our most basic rhythm, to get a feel for tempo and know when to change chords at the right time. Then we’ll gradually add rhythmic subdivisions such as half notes and quarter notes. This will fill in the space and give us even more of a rhythmic sense.

As usual we’ll have a lot of opportunities to play these chord changes along with a backing track to get you ready for real world playing experiences.

These lessons assume you already know these basic open chord shapes. If you don’t, I encourage you to work through the Guitar Tricks Fundamentals course that covers these chords. If you already know them, then let’s get started!
